About

Bio: What is a What If and why get ready for it? Simply put, What If is the kind of event that can change your life. You can either sit back and wait for it, or think it through a bit in order to protect yourself and your loved ones. Why read my blog? I’m working at it. It’s a learning process. I’m no expert, and I don’t think anybody really is. It’s a journey, not a destination. I invite you to share the journey with me.

I grew up in the Los Angeles area in the late 60s and 70s. I have been married three times, and have three beautiful daughters from the first. I have three sons-in-law and three grandchildren.

I have lived in Georgia, Texas, Rhode Island and now New Mexico. I have discovered I really don’t like humid summers, nor “true” winter. Southwestern New Mexico suits me just fine.

My parents were from the generation that understood things like food preservation, growing things, putting aside resources for emergencies. I am not. I am part of the generation that had just about the best life had to offer. I achieved a degree in Electronics Technology, before the “personal computer” was invented. I have since worked with electronics and computers for most of my career. My true calling appears to have been as a field service instructor. I did that for almost twenty years.

I am now a househusband, taking care of all the chores around the house, from cooking to cleaning and everything in between. I am blessed with a wife who likes her job and her career. I followed her from Rhode Island to California (specifically Fresno, where I was born), to New Mexico, to further her career. She is now a store manager and loves it.

I now spend a lot of my time organizing and Getting Ready.

  1. Hi Mark!
It seems you have found yourself in my home state! I miss it there and I want to return in the near future. I still have some property there but it is not my first choice for a new home site. I take it you are in the area of Silver City/ Reserve or are you closer to Gallup? If by Silver City you are in a great spot! The Gila is excellent. If you have an email for an off Blog conversation please send it and I would like to pursue a conversation with you on this subject.
    Sincerely, Michael

    • Hi Michael!

After living here for just over two years, I can’t imagine moving again. We’ve made some good friends and the neighbors are quiet! Not to mention, even at 6000 feet, winter isn’t nearly as severe as it was in Rhode Island! Although this year we’ve had almost no snow. That means summer is likely to be brutal. The Gila has been on fire for both of our summers and one of the local forestry guys says they’re expecting another awful fire season.

      • Hello Mark! I know what you mean about neighbors out there! All of my past neighbors were excellent! Sorry to hear about the fires! I hope the governor had the good sense this year to have a few roads cut in to create fire breaks in the most affected areas! Lack of snow is real bad! The water table is going to be very low this year then and pines are super flammable under those conditions. I hope the area fares OK this summer. Please tell me more news and about your prepping when you have time Mark. Best Regards Michael Date: Thu, 13 Mar 2014 14:31:53 +0000 To: sfimdb@msn.com
